War Costs Soar, Could Top $1.4 Trillion

Additional war costs for the next 10 years could total about $472 billion if troop levels fall to 30,000 by 2010, or $919 billion if troop levels fall to 70,000 by about 2013. If these estimates are added to already appropriated amounts, total funding about $980 billion to $1.4 trillion by 2017.

I'm not sure if I should be resentful of having to go look for a quote, or sad that you don't know this. I mean you aren't seriously arguing that the Bush Administration vastly underestimated the costs of this, are you?

'Asked how much the Second Iraq War would cost, Wolfowitz stuttered out: "And my – a rough recollection – well I'm – the oil revenues of that country could bring between 50- and 100-billion dollars over the course of the next two or three years."'

At the time, the Bush Administration was estimating costs much lower, and even forced Lawrence Lindsey out of his job because he was talking about a $200 billion number, which they did not want advertised.
