Bush Had Used Accouting Gimmicks to Show Smaller Budget Deficit, Obama to Get Rid of Them

"For his first annual budget next week, President Obama has banned four accounting gimmicks that President George W. Bush used to make deficit projections look smaller. The price of more honest bookkeeping: A budget that is $2.7 trillion deeper in the red over the next decade than it would otherwise appear, according to administration officials."

Even if you include these "gimmicks" in Obama's projections, his deficits dwarf those of Bush's.

That may be true, but notice the difference in attitude. To one administration it's about lying and secrecy. To another, government is about openness, honesty, and truth. It's the difference between thinking the government is yours to manipulate as you wish, and another mindset that knows it's the people's government and they deserve to know the details (ugly or not).
