Study says most corporations pay no U.S. income taxes

Study says most corporations pay no U.S. income taxes | U.S. | Reuters

This is where Republican talking points go off the track. They will complain and complain about unfair taxes on corporations and the rich. They talk about the disincentives to business with high taxes. But, the reality is that our tax code is so complicated, and so filled with loopholes, that the rich, and corporations wind up paying much, much less than what their complaints would have you believe. Debtor Nation Status Means U.S. Cedes Sovereignty

"...the next president’s ability to act unilaterally on anything other than
vital national security issues is going to be reduced. As the old
saying goes: He who has the gold makes the rules. Well, we no longer
have as much gold, and until we get some, we will have to pay more heed
to the rules of those who lend us theirs."

Feb. 28, 2008: "Housing Bill Will Bail Out Lenders"

"The Senate is considering legislation that would do more to bail
out lenders and speculators than to help homeowners keep their homes,"
he said. "The Senate bill would actually prolong the time it takes for
the housing market to adjust and recover, and it would lead to higher
interest rates."

Earlier this week, the Bush administration said the president would veto
the Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008 if it passes Congress because it
objected to two key elements. The first is a provision that would
change the bankruptcy law to let judges reduce the amount of principal
and interest due on mortgages of those filing for bankruptcy.

US Troops favor Obama 6 to 1 over McCain

"US troops serving overseas are donating to Obama 6 times as much as
they are to McCain. Maybe because veterans' groups give Obama an
average grade of B+, while McCain (who voted against the new GI Bill)
gets an F."
